NYC SPECIAL INSPECTOR - CIVIL / STRUCTURAL / ALL - PE DESIRED

Ettinger Engineering Associates (EEA), a premier MEP/FP, civil, and sustainability engineering firm based in midtown Manhattan, is seeking a NYC Special Inspector with specialization in Civil, Structural, or multiple categories. The role is ideal for candidates with strong experience in inspections, construction oversight, and a drive to support compliance with NYC Building Code and related standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform special inspections in accordance with NYC Building Code Chapter 17, including TR1 and TR8 categories (structural, civil, energy, envelope, and MEP).
  • Candidates are strongly preferred to have a civil or structural PE license.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections for construction compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Document findings, discrepancies, and progress using standardized report formats and checklists.
  • Coordinate with project teams, including contractors, design professionals, and DOB representatives.
  • Ensure timely completion of inspection reports and follow-up communications.
  • Advise design and construction teams on compliance strategies and inspection readiness.
  • Maintain records to support EEA's Class 1 Special Inspection Agency accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • 2-5+ years of experience performing building inspections or working on construction/engineering projects in NYC.
  • Professional Licenses/Registrations - Must hold a valid certificate in 1 or more of the following:
  • · Fall Protection, Scaffolding and ladders, work-zone safety, and a minimum of 10-hour OSHA Construction safety.
  • · Additionally, seeking one or more of the following certifications:
  • · AWS Certified Welding Inspector (AWS-CWI)
  • · AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (AWS -CAWI)
  • · ACI-1 - Concrete Construction Special Inspector (ACI-CCSI)
  • · ACI-1 - Associate Concrete Construction Special Inspector (ACI-ACCSI)
  • · ICC Concrete Special Inspector (ICC-CSI)
  • · ICC Commercial Mechanical
  • Familiarity with NYC DOB special inspection procedures and TR1/TR8 requirements.
  • ICC certification(s) in applicable special inspection categories strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NYC Building Code, standards, and typical construction practices.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple project assignments.
  • Ability to support, provide or lead commissioning efforts and/or other sustainable design verification efforts (e.g., blower door testing, duct blaster, open wall inspections, etc.) a PLUS.

Job Type: Full-time.

Salary: From $75,000.00 to $150,000.00 per year.
