Eric Ettinger, P.E., LEED AP

With nearly 40 years of consulting experience, Eric Ettinger has served as Principal-in-Charge of over 500 new buildings and some of New York City's most prominent and unique renovation projects with installation costs from $250,000 to $500,000,000 and up.

Eric is energetic, quick on his feet and is a powerful ally in resolving problems of any origin, be they related to design, construction, other sub-consultant scope or otherwise. Eric actively runs projects for the firm and always brings his vast depth and breadth of experience to the table in a manner which positively impacts the entire design process. Among other responsibilities, Eric strategically engages in many of EEA’s projects to add value via meeting participation, technical review and comment and more (even though this is sometimes behind the scenes).

Eric has conceived original designs for four-pipe fan coil and heat pump applications for new and renovated residential and commercial buildings. He has participated in energy management studies, implemented energy conscious designs and his innovations for Green Building Design, NYSERDA Energy Star Programs and Enterprise Green Communities have provided great economy for developers and builders.

Eric is very active in the consulting engineering community and consistently stays on the leading edge of industry trends. He is recognized for the informative and relevant articles that have been published in industry trade publications. His most recent articles address such topics as Affordable Housing Green Building Design, the new New York City Building Code, and creating workable designs to ensure energy responsibility.

Eric holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York, Cum Laude, Tau Beta Pi. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Connecticut, District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. He is also a LEED AP.

Edward C. Ettinger, P.E., LEED AP BD+C

Ed has been a practicing engineer since 2003 and has served as Principal-in-Charge for numerous and varied EEA projects. His concentration and emphasis on fulfilling client needs along with his hands-on style ensures project excellence from inception to completion.

Ed enjoys his work and brings his passion to the workplace. He thrives on technical challenges and enjoys solving complex engineering design problems with innovative approaches.

Recent examples of Ed’s technical contributions include developing an in-house and first-of-kind combined heat and power (cogeneration) plant simulator, designing an underground boiler flue offset for a 22-building NYCHA campus and leading studies to achieve Passive House and net-zero performance for residential and commercial buildings.

Ed is also the Founding Principal of EEA’s Sustainability and Inspection arm of the business. In this capacity he oversees projects targeting sustainability program certification, green building design and energy efficiency. He brings to the table a blended design approach that streamlines MEP scope with green and environment friendly construction.

In his “spare” time, you might find Ed improving business and technical design processes. He has implemented many “best-practice” procedures and refinements to continually streamline business performance. In his “spare-spare” time, you will find Ed spending quality time with his wife and three boys.

Ed holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.S. in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in the state of New York and is a LEED AP BD+C.

Waldir Alvarez, P.E., LEED AP

Waldir has been a part of EEA since 2000 and has served as Sr. Project Manager or Principal-in-Charge on many of EEA’s most complex and sizable projects. Waldir is extremely client friendly, detail-oriented and adept at adjusting to varying client needs. He is truly fluent in all MEP trades and has depths of experience with all aspects of sustainability and sustainable design.

More recently, Waldir has coordinated the completion of Hunter Point South Site A and B, a LEED Silver certified, 905,000 square foot, multi-dwelling project with 925 units. Development at Hunters Point South included cogeneration plants, indoor parking facilities, rain water harvesting systems and commercial retail.

Waldir is committed to driving high product quality and often times can be found technically coaching staff, reviewing drawing sets, etc. to just that end. He is also active in the community and donates his time among various programs and initiatives. Recently Waldir has presented workshops to college and high school students on the topic of leadership and continued personal development.

Waldir holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Trinity College. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of New York and is a LEED AP.
