Project Key Features

The DSNY Queens 11/13 garage is a 100,000 square foot repair facility for the Department of Sanitation undergoing major renovations. The facility serves as an operational hub for DSNY containing 9 repair garage bays, 40 vehicle storage bays and 10,000 square feet of offices.

EEA is serving as MEP/FP and sustainability design consultant for this rehabilitation project which will include replacement of: the cellar, first floor and roof slabs, some concrete walls and all electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drainage and fire protection systems. The project also includes gut renovation of personnel offices.

The project is pursuing LEED BD+C v2009 Silver Certification (minimum) but is also participating in NYC’s 80x50 initiative under which EEA led a study of a number of deep Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) considering greenhouse gas reductions, payback, energy cost savings and more. A number of these ECMs are being pursued accordingly including a roof-top solar photovoltaics system, high-performance envelope, improved mechanical system, solar thermal water heating system and enhanced lighting sensors.
